"Summer lovin, had me a blast. Summer loving happened so fast"
Yep here it is! My wonderful friend Amy of Amybeads set up another challenge for us. Look at what she put together for our kit!
My first challenges was to actually figure out what to do with this. I love "Tree of Live" and had yet to see one that would spark my creativity. I knew I was super busy but I couldn't pass this one up. It spoke to me.
My next challenge was to actually finish the piece. It was so funny I thought I was going to pull the coppers and golds from the pendant but for some reason every time I picked it up I would hear...
"They paved paradise and put up a parking lot...."
The chain actually came first. I have been playing with Chevron stitch because of Sonoko's book Japanese Beadwork. It is a funny think that I never really understood the stitches purpose or how to work it until looking through her book. There will be alot more about that when I post the review of her book this month.
I love the dimension of the chain and how it feels on. It actually worked up rather quickly and was finished way before my I sprained my finger and then the pendant just plain popped out at me.
I have also been learning so much from Jamie's book Dimensional Bead Embroidery (which is another review I have for you all) and this time I actually ventured to try something on my own. I really have to tell you that working with grey was so much fun. All the variations and it's versatility I just love it.
So here is "Paved Paradise"
So once again I have to thank Amy for letting me play along and sparking my creativity so much. You girlfriend are amazing!
Look who else is playing along!

So pretty, I love the border on the focal, it is kind of deco. Love this piece!
ReplyDeleteOh it's glorious!!!!! I love how you've surrounded it, and you came up with a perfect and original way to showcase it!! Yayyyyy YOU!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it Kristen!!! You totally rocked the grey! Not to mention you're such a heavy metal girl to start with... another beautiful piece!
ReplyDelete{Hugs!}
That chain you made is spectacular. I just want to reach out and touch it! Enjoy the day. Erin
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried chevron stitch, but now, I really want to. The necklace is fabulous and I love how you bezeled the pendant.
ReplyDeleteYeah, you seriously rocked this project girl! I love, love, love the chain, and the colors you chose are perfect! I'm amazed at how many different colors have been used with this pendant, and they all work! You are the coolest girlfriend, and I hope the finger is all better now. ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteBeautiful piece. I love the rope that you used to showcase the focal.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, elegant, perfect! I love this rope and this bezel!
ReplyDeleteThank you my dear, for participating!!!
I love your necklace, Kristen. The chevron chain is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mary - a little deco flavor is in here. Maybe it is the angular chain (love! must try myself) or maybe it is from the grouping of the faceted beads around the outside edge of the bezel. It really works so well.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful. The necklace really is perfect for the pendant too.
ReplyDeleteThe chevron stitch is gorgeous - one I haven't tried, but now I'm hunting for the book on that! what a beauty this piece is!
ReplyDeleteSo earthy and natural!
ReplyDeleteI love the title for this piece and can't wait to read your book reviews.
ReplyDeleteLOve the direction you went with this
